There IS such a thing as trying too hard

I don't mean to be Captain Obvious here but I have noticed that a majority of people I know are trying too hard. Plain and simple. Just trying too hard. It is noticeable in the way they talk, write, act and many other actions that humans do. I myself have been guilty of trying too hard but what I've seen lately is just making me sick to my stomach. I want to call them out but I fear the repercussions so I think I'll just sit back and laugh to myself at all the silly people who are trying just too damn hard.

ooh, ooh, is it me, is it me??? Please tell me I try too hard, because I could do with a change in my life. Just point out how I'm acting like an idiot, and then I'll make adjustments and then maybe that will help me figure out once and for all which personality I like better. As it is now, I can't tell which is trying too hard, because they are confusing the crap out of me.

Ah hahahaha, yeah, that's more like it. Well maybe I should start trying harder. Nah, who are we kidding? This is CRYSTAL!

Are you trying to tell me something? If so, Psssh. Sounds like a problem with you not with me. The way I see it is that it's much better to try and give things your all than to be half-assed.

I guess I kinda see where you're coming from... I know the kind of attitudes and behaviors you're talking about. But I wouldn't call that trying too hard. I'd call it trying wrong. I'd call it fake. I'd call it insincerity. I'd call it trying wrong; misplacing priorities and putting your effort into the wrong things. Anyways. That's my beef.

This is all too vague for me.

Hmm...good point Mags...although did it ever occur to you that I might not be talking about you or anyone else we know but rather a larger, broader behaviorial skill that I find annoying and chose to post about. Perhaps I had just watched a movie where the main character was trying too hard to woo a woman way above his level...think about that.

It doesn't matter who it's about. As for your movie-man, I say more power to him! His level? What, has the caste-system been reinstated?

Besides, isn't that sort of undogged determination the exact basis of the american dream-- If I throw myself into it and work hard, I can achieve success against great odds. Anyways. I'm just sayin'.
